Simulation Training & Technology
Robotic-assisted Surgery and Simulation
Much as laparoscopic simulators have improved surgery over the last 20 years, robotic-assisted surgery is laying a similar path. This new technology, led by the da Vinci® Surgical System, has given rise to commercial simulators that train the basic skills necessary for robotic surgery. This opens the door to varied approaches to learning and the need to measure their effectiveness in preparing for real-world application.
The Nicholson Center dry lab space houses leading-edge robotic surgery and simulation training equipment including:
da Vinci® Surgical Systems from Intuitive Surgical and ancillary dry lab systems
da Vinci Skills Simulator (DVSS) or “backpack" from Intuitive Surgical
dV-Trainer from Mimic Technologies
Robotic Surgery Simulator (RoSS) from Simulated Surgical Systems
FRS Psychomotor skills "dome" developed by the Nicholson Center
Simbionix LAP Mentor™ Laparascopic Simulator
Evaluating Robotic Simulation Technology
The introduction of simulation into robotic surgery is recent and advancing quickly. This has created the need to identify systems that effectively improve these unique surgical skills. As the largest medical robotics simulation center in the world, we systematically perform evaluations of the transfer of training effects for each generation of training simulators.
Nicholson Center provides a comprehensive comparison of the curriculum, scoring method, system administration, visual resolution, validation, and support tools for the robotic-assisted surgery simulators available today.
Simulated Operating Rooms
The Florida Hospital Nicholson Center offers simulated operating rooms, which enable healthcare professionals to train essential skills (e.g. team training & skills training) in a safe environment without risking patient safety. These realistic environments offer professionals the ability to advance their practices, which can lead to improved outcomes and patient care. In addition, each operating room houses hospital grade equipment and the latest in audio visual technology to document your training session. This flexible, clinical space can also incorporate a multitude of simulation platforms into the lab services, offering a realistic yet accommodating simulation environment.
Simulated Patient Rooms
The Florida Hospital Nicholson Center offers flexible space that can be used to simulate patient exam and waiting room environments. Located next to Florida Hospital Celebration Health, we have access to a variety of equipment to simulate patient exam and waiting rooms. With these capabilities, clients have the opportunity to develop essential patient care skills in a safe environment that fosters professional development. With Nicholson Center digital services, healthcare professionals are offered the ability to record and review their performances for debriefing.
