Course Objective
This course is the next level to the initial da Vinci technical training and is led by two academic thoracic surgeons with extensive experience in robotic surgery. The program provides a detailed review of robotic thoracic procedures the include: didactic lectures, live-case observations (2 robotic lobectomies), a dry-lab as well as a hands-on human cadaveric laboratory. The curriculum includes: surgical indications, patient positioning, port placement, robotic docking, instrumentation and the technical aspects a pulmonary lobectomy and thymectomy. The course also provides open round-table discussions with the two thoracic surgeons, as well as, discussions on the tips & pitfalls of establishing a successful robotics program.

Completion of da Vinci Technology online course and assessment
Course Objectives:
After the course, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the indications for robotic surgery, port placement, robotic docking, and instrumentation utilized in a robotic pulmonary lobectomy.
- Explain the procedural approach and technical aspects of a robotic lobectomy.
- Discuss the indications, patient preparation, port placement, robotic docking and instrumentation utilized in a robotic thymectomy.
- Identify the tips and pitfalls of starting a robotics program.
- Translate the core robotic psychomotor skills that include: endowrist manipulation, camera navigation, instrument clutching, use of the 4th arm, energy application, robotic stapling, robotic suturing and use of the Firefly mode as it relates to the execution of these skills in a remote surgeon’s console.
- Identify and troubleshoot most common technical problems encountered during a robotic procedure
