Course Description

The course is intended for laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeons from South, Central and North America currently practicing minimally invasive surgery.  The symposium has been designed to increase knowledge of laparoscopic, endoscopic, and minimally invasive surgical techniques applicable to general surgeons. The meeting consists of a day of lectures followed by a day in the lab where attendees will be able to master both basic and advanced laparoscopic procedures. Access to robotic simulators will further enrich the participants’ experience.

Course Objectives:

  1. Discuss the indications and contraindications of laparoscopic surgery in the emergency setting.
  2. Enlist critical components of a well-rounded laparoscopic program.
  3. Describe the future of minimally invasive techniques in developing countries.
  4. Define initiatives to reduce operational cost of minimally invasive surgery, including robotics.
  5. Outline strategies to increase access of young surgeons and trainees to standardized laparoscopic training programs.
